Description

The new edition of the Macintosh Server G4 with Gigabit Ethernet was available with a dual 450 or 500Mhz processors.  As the name indicated, it included 1000Base-T Ethernet.  The 450Mhz configuration had 64Mb of RAM and a 20Gv hard drive.  It was available with either an 80Gb 7200-rpm (ATI) hard drive or a 72Gb 10,000-rpm (SCSI) hard drive.  A DVD-ROM or DVD-RAM was standard.

History

Based on the Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet), the Macintosh Server G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) was the first Server to have Gigabit Ethernet standard.  The new release of the Power Mac G4 was available in two high-powered configurations and came bundled with server software.  It also featured the Apple Display Connector (ADC) that connected the computer to a monitor, streaming both power and video.

Timeline

Introduced at the Macworld Expo New York in July 2000 and released for sale in August, the Macintosh Server G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) was discontinued in January 2001.
